Tomorrow, 25 June, every donation to Hato Hone St John's Light the Way annual appeal will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Light the Way Giving Day aims to raise $1 million to support 10 critical ambulance station projects - including the Nelson Tasman Ambulance Hub. Every dollar donated will be matched by a group of generous supporters, doubling the impact to $2 million and helping fund new stations, upgrades and essential repairs. The Nelson region continues to grow, and with it, the demand for ambulance services. But the current facilities are no longer able to properly support the needs of frontline crews or the communities they care for. Hato Hone St John are working toward a new Nelson Tasman Ambulance Station that will bring crews and volunteers together under one roof, helping improve coordination, support crew wellbeing, and strengthen emergency response across the region. Land and resource consent have already been secured, and fundraising is now underway to help move this important project forward.

Businesses urged to get behind Hato Hone St John’s Nelson Tasman ambulance hub Findex calls on Nelson businesses to back Hato Hone St John’s efforts to build a new Nelson Tasman Ambulance Hub by sponsoring its sold-out Findex Community Fund Charity Golf Day on 16 May 2025 at Nelson Golf Club. With 116 golfers across 29 teams set to participate, the event offers a key opportunity for businesses to support a vital community cause while engaging with local leaders. The new ambulance hub will enhance Hato Hone St John’s ability to serve the region, where demand for emergency services is rising. In 2024, Hato Hone St John responded to 450,201 incidents nationwide, a 2.8% increase from 2023, with Nelson among the high-demand areas. The hub will support faster response times and upgraded facilities, addressing the region’s growing needs. Limited hole sponsorships remain, starting at just $500 (excl. GST) for high-visibility activity holes like Closest to the Pin or Longest Drive, offering prominent branding and digital promotion. Findex is also welcoming donations of raffle items, contributions towards prize packs, and auction prizes to boost fundraising efforts throughout the day. Auction prize donors will receive public acknowledgment during the event, logo placement in the auction catalogue, and digital visibility on the Charity Golf Day website, says Andrew Smith, Findex Nelson Managing Partner. “We’re thrilled by the response to the golf day, but not that surprised,” he smiles. “It’s always a big drawcard for everyone from the scratch players through to the weekend warrior, as the focus is on fun and community spirit.” With full capacity, he adds that every sponsorship will shine. “It’s a great chance to get involved for not much money, connect with a vibrant crowd, and get behind a cause we’re all pretty keen on in Nelson. We know Hato Hone St John does critical work, and we know they really need that new ambulance station – so every contribution helps.” Every contribution makes a difference, and we’re grateful for Findex’s support in helping us work towards funding the future ambulance station for the Nelson Tasman region, says Debbie Zwies, Hato Hone St John South Island Fundraising Manager. “Their fundraising efforts will assist us in strengthening our services and ensuring we will continue to meet the needs of our communities well into the future.” The Ambrose-style 18-hole event at Nelson Links features stunning Tasman Bay views, BBQ and drink stations, and a lively ‘Party Hole’ hosted by Tax Management New Zealand with burgers and music. Highlights include Bowater Motor Group’s Hole-in-One contest, offering a $40,000 car and a matching St John donation (only if someone has the skill, talent, or blind luck to card a 1!), followed by post-game networking, nibbles, and an auction featuring a $15,000 Fiordland Discovery trip for two among other exciting lots. Since 2018, the Findex Community Fund has donated over $4.1 million to charities, and Smith is confident in achieving a record-breaking year in 2025. “Don’t miss this final chance to align your brand with a legacy of giving,” Smith exhorts. Email events.newzealand@findex.co.nz now to secure a limited hole sponsorship, donate raffle or auction items, or contribute to prize packs.

[BEGINS] Award-Winning Performance, Only Bones – Daniel Nodder debuts in Te Waipounamu Arriving back in Aotearoa after a successful season at the San Diego International Fringe Festival, multi-award-winning production Only Bones – Daniel Nodder is heading south for a two-stop tour of Nelson Fringe 12 & 13 March and Dunedin Fringe 20 & 22 March. This innovative Wellington-based show took home two awards at the San Diego Fringe, including the Artists’ Pick Award and the Outside the Box Award. Their international success came after the show won big at the 2023 NZ Fringe Festival, taking home awards for Outstanding Solo Performance, Tour-Ready Melbourne Fringe and Tour-Ready San Diego Fringe, plus a nomination for the Best in Fringe. Only Bones – Daniel Nodder is the eleventh iteration of The Only Bones Project. Created by award-winning physical and circus performer, Thom Monckton (The Artist, The King of Taking), The Only Bones Project is designed to challenge and celebrate physical performers. “We have such a wealth of talented physical performers in this world and I wanted to create something that celebrates the weird, wacky and wonderful things they can do,” Monckton says. “The restrictions are a key part of that. It means that the performers can’t rely on a big set or fancy tech, all they have is their body and their creativity.” This physical performance masterpiece is completely devoid of any spoken words but is riddled with exceptionally challenging feats of dance and physical theatre. Featuring a single lightbulb, a small circle on the floor and a mesmerising original score, Daniel Nodder dances, clowns, and bends in ways you never thought possible. With jelly-like movement, this work spans the universe from the Big Bang to the invention of fire to a primordial hand ballet with upbeat jazz. This Summer, Nodder’s iteration will debut at the Nelson and Dunedin Fringe Festivals where it will likely continue its track record of being a festival favourite for audiences and critics alike. One Melbourne reviewer remarked, “This is the type of show that you go to a Fringe Festival for” in 2023. “I saw Thom perform the original Only Bones in 2018, which was the catalyst for The Only Bones Project, and it changed my life,” Daniel Nodder says. “To be invited by Thom to make an Only Bones of my own is a pretty amazing experience.” [ENDS] Daniel Nodder and Thomas Monkton present: Only Bones – Daniel Nodder NELSON FRINGE FESTIVAL WHEN: 7:30pm, 12 & 13 March, 2025 WHERE: Red Door Theatre, 95 Atawhai Drive, Nelson PRICE: $18 (General Admission), $28 (Pay a bit more), $50 (Pay a lot more) TO BOOK: https://www.trybooking.com/nz/events/landing/14474 DUNEDIN FRINGE FESTIVAL WHEN: 8pm, 20 & 22 March, 2025 WHERE: Te Whare o Rukutia, PRICE: $23 (General Admission), $20 (Concession), $18.40 (Group 6+) TO BOOK: https://www.dunedinfringe.nz/events/only-bones-daniel-nodder Images https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11P6fr6uM8f0hIFqQSMlYTbYajRd7-2Mn?usp=sharing Show Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXbqKo4HD1Y&ab Review Quotes - Review tickets available, contact Producer - fayvandermeulen1@gmail.com “This is the type of show that you go to a Fringe Festival for.” 4.5 Stars – Arts Hub, Melbourne 2023 “Some of the funniest physical gags I’ve seen in a long time [...] I left this performance with a big goofy smile on my face.” – Art Murmurs, Wellington 2023. “The on-stage chemistry between Daniel and that light bulb is off the charts.” – Audience Member, Wellington 2023. “It's adept and intensely funny, bold, clever and original.” – Triple R 102.7fm, Melbourne 2023 About the Only Bones Project Only Bones – Daniel Nodder is the eleventh iteration of a series of solo shows grouped together under The Only Bones Project, created in 2015 by world-renowned circus and physical performer, Thom Monckton. The project champions physicality and virtuoso performance and has since become a genre in itself with 11 high-calibre artists from a variety of performance backgrounds contributing their own versions. Each artist is invited to create their own show under a uniform set of parameters. These tight restrictions are designed to push each performer's skill and creativity to their limits and encourage them to not just think outside the box, but explore the space within it. For more information, reviewer tickets, or to set up an interview with the artist(s), please contact producer - Fay Van Der Meulen at fayvandermeulen1@gmail.com or 027 805 7150.

My name is Hannah Herchenbach, and I am writing as the first Community Engagement Coordinator of the Show Me Shorts festival. This role is brand-new, and my purpose is to respond to the needs and desires of each community where the festival screens. The festival is coming up fast, as the screenings in Nelson are October 13–15 at the Suter Theatre. I’ll be in the area on those dates and would love to meet and chat with local film lovers to brainstorm how the festival might be able to build deeper connections with the (fabulous) local arts community. I am here to listen so we can evolve the festival to work better and harder for all of us. A bit more about the festival: Show Me Shorts is New Zealand’s leading international short film festival as well as the only one that is Oscar-accredited. It’s a charitable trust whose mission is to connect New Zealand audiences with short films and share New Zealand short films with the world. A bit more about my role: While the festival is in its 18th year, my role is a new position that was born out of a long-standing desire to have representation within local communities across New Zealand. Thanks to a Ministry of Culture and Heritage grant, the festival now has a South Island team member. My goal is to grow the South Island events in a way that is driven by local communities and in ways that serve the needs of those who live here and love films. I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have, so feel free to drop me an email or send a text. Have a lovely day, Hannah Herchenbach
